We don’t have a catchy title or flashy lights but we do have a story to tell. My name is James Beck. I grew up in Point Blank, Texas about 80 miles North of Houston, on Lake Livingston. My husband is Brandon Beck. Just like all love stories we met and fell in love and got married. We both have always wanted kids but as a gay couple it is a little hid harder, as you can imagine, and even way more expensive. Prior to my current job I worked for Texas Department of Family and Protective Services in Child Protective Services. This was a role that would change my life forever. I witnessed events that no child should ever have to go through. I remember one time in court where a judge removed a parent’s parental rights of a child and the mother in open court stated “take this one, I’ll just get pregnant and have another”. This statement changed me. I was so mad at her for this. She had a beautiful child that she just gave up on because it was easier for her to just “start over”. I could not stand to be in the courtroom any longer and I rushed out, almost in tears. I wanted to be a father so bad and here is this mother giving up on her kids and it really hurt me. Fast forward a couple of years to today. I am no longer in that position. I currently am the broker and owner of Centum Oak Realty in Bastrop, Texas. My yearning to become a father has not faded one bit but the financial burden of Surrogacy in the United States just does not allow for us to jump up and sign a contract with a surrogacy agency tomorrow. At $150,000 for one journey that is more than some rural Texas houses cost. We just don’t have that kind of money or do I think that is fiscally responsible. So we are looking at other options to start our journey slowly and financially responsible. I plan to blog about our experience and journey. all of our success and failures. What we have learned and what we would do differently. Please subscribe and let me know what you would like to know about us, our family, & our journey.
